Fidel (Viva Fidel) Verdin is a father and visionary artist serving as the Co-Executive Director at TRUE Skool, Milwaukee's Center for Creative Arts and Hip Hop Culture. His role as an adjunct professor at Alverno College reflects his academic influence and expertise. Fidel is well-known for his contributions to music and media and his exemplary leadership in community development initiatives. He has received numerous awards, including recognition as one of the 2023 "Notable BIPOC Executives" by BizTimes.
An acclaimed cultural executive and artist, Fidel founded the Peace Park and Garden and MLK Peace Place, earning Groundwork Milwaukee's "Creative Placemaking" award. The Peace Park and Garden and MLK Peace Place are transformative community gardens and gathering spaces focused on creating community, urban agriculture, and connection with nature. Both locations serve as a gathering place for community events and educational programs. He has also been recognized as an Environmental Pioneer for his contributions to urban agriculture.
Fidel launched the "Summer of Peace," an influential citywide event promoting youth leadership and conflict resolution. This initiative has inspired the ongoing "Promote the Positive" campaign—a powerful social enterprise dedicated to uplifting humanity. As an Original Abstract Artist, hip hop artist/producer, and award-winning filmmaker, Fidel also serves on the Music Advisory Board at Milwaukee Area Technical College and contributes to several other organizations.
